The Pacific DVD set, the new collection of discs containing the mini-series by HBO, is now available for fans to purchase for home viewing. The film was a collaboration by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, their third such undertaking. The story takes place in the 1940′s Pacific battleground, and it’s protagonists are 3 individual US Marine Corps infantrymen. Although they were all Marines, they did not fight together as they were assigned to different infantry companies. The Pacific was originally a book by author and history expert, Hugh Ambrose, whose father penned another HBO series’ inspiration, Band of Brothers. Although Ambrose is a historian, his goal was not to give his analysis of the events of the war, but to present it in the views of the 3 main characters.
One of the things that make this series so powerful is the incredible work done by Hanks and Spielberg. As mentioned above, the two film industry star producers have previously worked together to make some very successful World War II epics. Saving Private Ryan is still one of the best war films ever created, and is still highly regarded among film critics. This movie was not, however based on real characters, but does portray the war in France quite accurately. After their success with “Private Ryan,” Spielberg and Hanks got together again, but this time working with HBO to bring to life the book by Stephen Ambrose, titled Band of Brothers. This book and film chronicle the true accounts of a unit known as “Easy Company,” a part of the American 101st Airborne Division. The film follows “Easy” starting in their paratrooper training in Georgia, and continues to the combat jumps in Normandy and Holland, through to the end of the war and German surrender. Due to the great success of this series, it was only logical that HBO would go on to create a film that looks at the conflict in the Pacific against Japan.
The Pacific DVD set is the compilation that was originally released as a ten part miniseries on HBO in March of 2010. The three Marines on which the film was based are Eugene Sledge, John Basilone, and Robert Leckie, all actual American men who fought in the Pacific Theater in WWII. The first battle fought by these men is in the jungles of Guadalcanal. They then are assigned to participate in the Cape Gloucester campaign, which had the objective of taking over some of Japan’s military airstrips there. The assault on Peleliu is the next stop on their tour, followed by invasions in Iwo Jima and Okinawa, two of the most famous and bloody battles of the war. After the war’s end, the Marines struggle to reintegrate themselves into American society as civilians after the long, seemingly endless war.
The Pacific DVD set was released by HBO for home viewing in 2011, and has been a fantastic success. It includes 6 DVD’s, and also includes some additional documentary programming. The subject matter focuses on the making of the miniseries and historical programs profiling the war in the Pacific.

The Descendents are an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California. As of 2010, they have released six studio albums, three live albums, three compilation albums and three EPs. The Glee Project winners haven’t yet announced what characters they’ll be playing, but we’re getting a lot closer to finding out.
　　”I saw Damian [McGinty] the other day [on set] but I don’t know if he’s going to be in the episode,” Dot-Marie Jones, who has just finished shooting episode three, told Wetpaint Entertainment at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 10.
　　The actress, who plays Coach Beiste, said she was excited to hear that all four Glee Project finalists got a chance to be on the show, especially after getting to know them as a mentor last spring. “Those kids are so amazing and so talented and raw,” she said. “I only wish I’d done that at that age.”
　　Though she has no inside scoop (or at least knows better than to share) when it comes to their roles, Dot-Marie knows what she’d like to see happen on the show — at least as far as Damian is concerned. “I told Ryan I think it would be awesome if I was his foreign exchange home,” she revealed. “Wouldn’t that be hilarious?”
　　She can even see Damian and co-winner Samuel Larsen on the football team. “Damian, I think, could hold his own. Samuel, he’s very thin…but he could be a receiver,” she said, chuckling. “I can see those dreads hanging out of a helmet.”
　　When they’re ready to roll, she’ll be there waiting for them, as there will be much more Coach Beiste in store when Glee returns for its third season. “I’m in the first three episodes and I’m doing a lot more than just coaching the football team,” Dot-Marie told us. “It’s fun!”
　　Unfortunately “more” does not mean a song and dance number, as she is recovering from a broken foot. “I stepped wrong, and it just made this loud awful snap, and I wasn’t sure what it was until I took that next step and knew it was not nice,” said the actress, who traded her crutches for a cane on Emmy day. “They wanted me to have surgery, but I told them, ‘Are you kidding me? I’m a little busy!’”

While one co-star revels in a second nomination and another stays busy with hosting duties, Glee star Lea Michele will get her time to shine on the Emmy stage as a presenter, Entertainment Weekly reports. The list also includes the likes of Rob Lowe (Parks & Recreation), Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries), and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family).

Decades-old found footage from NASA’s abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon.
Apollo 18 is an upcoming 2011 American science fiction horror film directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov. The film’s premise is that the officially canceled Apollo 18 mission was actually launched in December 1974 but never returned, and as a result the United States has never launched another expedition to the Moon. The film is shot in a mockumentary found-footage style, supposedly of the lost footage of the Apollo 18 mission that was only recently discovered. The film will be Lopez-Gallego’s first English-language film.
After various release date changes, the film is currently scheduled to be released on September 2, 2011
Apollo 18 is a found-footage style film set in December 1974, about a post-Apollo 17 mission to the Moon that takes on a premise of why NASA discontinued the Apollo Moon missions. The plot involves a government coverup of theApollo 18 mission after parasitic lifeforms on the Moon discovered the crew and began to attack them. Much of the back-story remains unknown; however, the movie posters in English indicate the KGB’s role in Soviet lunar conspiracy and the Russian movie posters show inscriptions in English suggesting an American government cover up in a lunar conspiracy.[3][4] In the trailer, an American astronaut discovers the foot prints made by the Sovietcosmonaut and also found a helmet, a dead cosmonaut, and a Soviet LK Lander on the lunar surface.
The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia and stars actors Lloyd Owen and Warren Christie.However it has been promoted as a “found footage” film that does not use actors. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly,Dimension Films head Bob Weinstein denied the film was a work of fiction, stating that “We didn’t shoot anything, we found it. Found, baby!” The film will be distributed by Dimension Films.
The Science & Entertainment Exchange provided a science consultation to the film’s production team.
Needless to say I laughed when I read that he was trying to sell us on an Apollo 18 mission that encountered an alien life form on the Moon that was secretly recorded and kept under wraps until now. But that does not stop some of you from believing that not only did Apollo 18 happen but so did Apollo 19 and Apollo 20 with some pretty shocking outcomes.
Just from watching the trailer for Apollo 18 it is hard to believe it is not Hollywood produced. Frankly there are scenes in JJ Abrams Cloverfield that looked more plausible then this new Apollo 18 movie.
That said in doing some looking it seems that there is a large group of believers who believe full heartedly that something strange did happen on the moon and that there is good reason we have never returned to the lunar planet.
